The Netgear R6700 AC1750 router is a smart dual-band Wi-Fi router that offers speeds of 1750 Mbps. It allows you to perform a range of online activities and helps prevent lags on most of your heavily used devices. It is a large router and supports 450 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz frequency and up to 1300 Mbps on the 5 GHz frequency.
The R6700 resembles the famous R7000 AC1900 in design, and the internal hardware components are also somewhat similar. The AC1750 uses beamforming technology that not only enhances the wireless range but also improves the signal focus. If you are looking forward to buying this device, this detailed review of the Netgear R6700 AC1750 will prove to be very informative and help you make an informed decision.
So let’s get into the Netgear AC1750 Review.
Design of the Netgear AC1750:
The Netgear AC1750 has a nice design and is quite sturdily built. The overall design, especially the colour and housing, is similar to the original Nighthawk model. The R6700 has a wide base, and there are rubber feet at the bottom to avoid skidding. If you have limited space on your desk or table, you can mount it on a wall as it has a wall-mounted design.
The R6700 has a single USB 3.0 port and has long antennas that boost the signal range and minimize dead spots if you have a large house. The beamforming technology also helps extend the signal coverage and, thus, allows you to use more devices far away from the router. The antennas present on the AC1750 router are removable and adjustable as well. This makes it easier for the user to replace them if they are broken or damaged.
There is a total of 12 LEDs present on the front panel that dictate the status of the router to the user. There are apparently too many lights that keep on blinking all the time, but if you do not want to use them, you can turn them off too. There are ventilation holes provided at the back and the sides, which keep the router cool.
Inside the AC1750 router is a 1 GHz processor that is usually present in the Nighthawk series. There is a Netgear Genie app as well, which allows the users to control the router without accessing their computer or laptop. The app allows you to share music and stream it as well as set parental locks.
The device measures 11.22 x 7.26 x 1.97 inches and weighs around 1.6 pounds. In spite of being equipped with a lot of hardware, it is very lightweight and is portable enough to be transferred from one place to another. You can mount it on the wall or place it on your desk according to your preferences.
When tested through the USB 3.0 connection, the Netgear AC1750 performed very well. The router performs much better on the NTFS and FAT32 formats as compared to other routers of this category. It also performs better than other dual-band routers in terms of frequency (when placed around 10 to 25 feet away from the device). The AC1750 had the highest throughput (524 Mbps) when placed at a distance of 10 feet away from the device.
The Netgear AC1750 router is capable of offering amazing speeds over the 802.11ac protocol and thus, its performance in the overall range is outstanding. The 802.11ac technology was hard to find a year ago, but now, it is included in many routers due to improvements in technology. The router is designed to cater to the needs of large homes with a strong coverage and range. The AC1750 also uses the latest firmware version 220.127.116.11.
The dual-band router supports MU-MIMO as well as IPv6 and VPN. If you want to use these technologies, you can adjust the settings of the router using the mobile app or the web interface. You can also use the web interface for resetting the router or troubleshooting from a remote location. The router includes 4 LAN ports and an option of enabling guest Wi-Fi network.
Ease of Use
The router is quite easy to set up because of the intuitive interfaces. Compared to other routers such as the Linksys WRT1900ACS and Max Stream, the Netgear AC1750 gave an amazing performance and did equally well in the whole setup process. However, the ASUS RT-AC88U is the easiest to set up with the TP-Link Archer C7 scoring the second position.
Overall, the Netgear AC1750 offers no problems when the network name and password is configured. This is because the router starts up a wizard automatically, which configures the settings and make the whole process easier. However, you will have to update the firmware after you have purchased it and before you start using it.
The interface of this router is very user-friendly but feels a bit outdated. There are some useful widgets on the main page, which allow you to navigate smoothly between all the options. The parental controls are very easy to use and are among the finest ones.
You can also easily set up the mobile app by installing it; it will take only a few minutes to get connected. On the app, you can set various levels of control and customize your experience as well. There are specific domains which you can whitelist or blacklist according to your preferences and create bypass accounts for devices that can use the internet without any restrictions.
If you want to evaluate the performance of a router, you must test its maximum range. We conducted a test by streaming a video in 720p and analyzing the performance by keeping the router at various distances from the laptop on which the video was played. The video stream was very clear till 150 feet, but after that, it started cutting out because the maximum range was achieved.

2.4 GHz Throughput
The Netgear AC1750 shows great results whenever the distance is short, that is, around 10 feet from the device. We conducted two tests, one with a clear line of sight and the other with a wall in its line of sight. With the clear line of sight at 10 feet, the router delivered a speed of 48 Mbits/s, while with the obstruction, it delivered an average speed of 47 Mbits/s.
When placed at 30 feet from a computer, the router delivered an average speed of 43 Mbits/s with a clear line of sight and 37 Mbits/s when there was a wall.
We also did a test placing the router at a distance of 65 feet and the router delivered an average speed of 25 Mbit/s.
5 GHz Throughput
The performance of this router is amazing at the 5 GHz frequency. The router delivered high speeds of 211 Mbits/s and 201 Mbits/s when tested at a medium distance without and with an obstruction respectively. Though the performance drops a bit when there is an obstruction, it is still high enough to perform various online activities.
When placed at a longer distance from the computer, the router performed very well, but it slightly underperformed as compared to the Nighthawk X10, which gives one of the best speeds at this distance.
